My Pod's Top 5 Pauper EDH Commanders from The Hobbit
Top 5 Pauper EDH Commanders from The Hobbit
The Definitive Pod Dives Rankings for Universes Beyond: The Hobbit
After evaluating all 38 uncommon commanders from The Hobbit across our 8-part video series, our pod convened to determine the elite five options that define this set in the Pauper EDH format. Counting down from #5 all the way to our undisputed #1 pick, here are our official rankings!
5. Bolg of the North
Kicking off number 5 is Bolg of the North. Pure Rakdos overkill, sac your creatures to remove other threats, amass goblins on overkill and clear the board to attack.
4. Bifur, Melodic Rider
At number 4, Bifur, Melodic Rider. Patience pays off here, you’ll easily have Storied active when he lands, unlocking immediate counters and extra Dwarf triggers.
3. Woodland Weavemaster
At number 3, Woodland Weavemaster. Vigilance lets you swing with cheap pump spells like Giant Growth, then tap him second main to float massive mana and flood the board with Elves.
Rank #2 • A-Tier
2. Bilbo, Luckwearer
At number 2, Bilbo, Luckwearer. Bilbo is a non-stop engine. His adventure side acts as a safety net, while built-in evasion and card draw lets him race to sixteen commander damage fast with enhancements like Brass Knuckles and Eel Umbra.
Rank #1 • S-Tier
1. Thranduil, Sindarin Liege
At number 1, our only S-tier from The Hobbit: Thranduil! His Adventure half smooths your early curve by digging up to two lands. Then on board, he’s an Elf anthem that generates a 1/1 Elf token on every single Landfall trigger working with lots of Pauper EDH’s Simic value cards like Quirion Ranger. Card fixing, token swarms, and team buffs all in the command zone—he does it all.
