Pod Dives Selection Countdown • Top 5

After evaluating all 162 uncommon commanders from Marvel Super Heroes across our massive 24-part video series, our pod convened to determine the elite five options that define this set in the Pauper EDH format. Counting down from #5 all the way to our undisputed #1 pick, here are our official rankings!

Karolina Dean, Runaway Rank #5 • S-Tier

5. Karolina Dean, Runaway

5-Color (WUBRG) • Legendary Creature — Alien

At number 5, Karolina Dean, Runaway. Pauper EDH’s historic first five-color legend, generating all five mana every turn to pay for anything outside of your hand.

Whiplash, Vengeful Engineer Rank #4 • S-Tier

4. Whiplash, Vengeful Engineer

Mono-Black • Legendary Creature — Human Villain Artificer

At number 4, Whiplash, Vengeful Engineer! A lethal one-mana threat that drains the entire table on attack for every piece of equipment strapped to him.

Thor Odinson Rank #3 • S-Tier

3. Thor Odinson

Boros • Legendary Creature — God Hero

At number 3, Thor Odinson! Flying, vigilance, and double prowess make him an absolute terror. Chaining a couple cheap cantrips alongside double-strike spells like Assault Strobe easily deletes opponents with lethal sixteen-commander-damage swings in pauper EDH.

Shuri, Wakandan Inventor Rank #2 • S-Tier

2. Shuri, Wakandan Inventor

Mono-Blue • Legendary Creature — Human Hero Artificer

At number 2, Shuri, Wakandan Inventor! A two-mana commander that permanently discounts your artifacts. Alongside that she taps with one generic mana to clone your best artifact; whether that's doubling up mana rocks, cloning artifact creatures, or gaining more utility artifacts, this card is a massive engine in the command zone.

Captain America, Living Legend Rank #1 • S-Tier

1. Captain America, Living Legend

Jeskai • Legendary Creature — Human Hero Soldier

And taking the number 1 spot, Captain America, Living Legend! At three mana for a 3/4 with vigilance, his passive is terrifying for opponents. Whenever a creature you control taps during your turn for the first time, you immediately untap it. That gives your entire attacking board pseudo-vigilance, while effectively doubling every single tap activation on your turn; letting your looters, pingers, mana dorks, and convoke engines fire off twice for ridiculous value. It’s massive board pressure and relentless tempo in the command zone, making Captain the undisputed king of the set.

Which of these five Marvel monsters are you brewing first? Drop your pick below and follow Pod Dives for more Pauper EDH content!
